Packing Requirements & Guidelines

Print

The weather in Israel will vary. The temperature can vary from the 30s in the Winter to as high as the 80s-90s and above in the Summer. Utilize the internet to keep updated with the weather in Israel. Please bring enough clothes for the entire trip, since you will not be able to do laundry during the program.

Please print this and use it as a checklist while packing for your trip!

THE FOLLOWING ITEMS ARE REQUIRED:

Backpack for daily use (brought with you on the airplane)
Sunscreen (minimum SPF30)
Hat (no visors - must cover top of head - must be packed in backpack)
T-shirts for daily activities (tank-top or sleeveless/strapless shirts cannot be worn while touring during the day)
Sneakers
Old gym shoes [closed-toe] (must be able to get wet - sandals, Tevas' or Crocks cannot be worn while touring during the day)

THE FOLLOWING ITEMS ARE SUGGESTED:

Toiletries
Bath/pool/beach towel
Glasses/contact lenses
Sunglasses
Medications
Umbrella (winter only!)
Camera (don't forget the charger!)
Small duffel bag (packed empty to carry home all the souvenirs you purchase!)
Electrical current adapters (these are for appliances that do not convert voltage automatically!)
Plug adapter for Israel (for appliances that convert voltage automatically)
WOMEN: Long skirt (below knees) for holy sites (pants are acceptable)
MEN: Kipah
Long-sleeved shirts (Winter)
Sweater/sweatshirt (Winter)
Short-sleeved shirts (remember from above, you need enough for all 10-days!)
Tank-top/sleeveless/strapless shirts (remember from above, these can only be worn at night!)
Jeans/Khakis
Pants (athletic-type for outdoor activities)
Outfit that can get dirty (for archaeological dig)
Bathing suit(s)
Shorts
Nice outfit(s) for Shabbat and going out (Friday & Saturday evenings)
Socks (remember from above, sneakers are required daily)
Underwear
Sandals or flip-flops (remember from above, can only be worn at night!)

*Linens and pillows will be provided at accommodation sites!*

SUGGESTED AMOUNT OF SPENDING MONEY:

We recommend bringing $200 USD in CASH which can be easily converted to Israeli Shekels on the bus when you land at Ben Gurion Airport. This should be sufficient for daily expenses (1 meal a day), not including gifts/souvenirs.
ATM cards and credit cards are generally accepted in Israel, and provide good exchange rates. Visa and Mastercard are the most commonly used. Discover Card is not accepted in Israel. Be sure to inform your credit card company that you are traveling to Israel. ATM pin numbers should be no more then 4 numbers to work in Israel.
We do not suggest that participants use traveler's checks or Israeli bonds.

NOTE:

Bringing expensive items (jewelry, laptop computers, etc.) is not advised. Most hotels will not have safes or secure places to keep these items. You are responsible for any items you bring. Oranim and the hotels used are not liable for any items lost or left behind.
